Science Summative: Criteria B and C Planning Stage
My role: You are a member of a team which is helping first time urban grower to grow healthy plants which gives them more yield.
You want to investigate the optimum conditions needed for the growth of plants and subsequently higher produce.
Investigating Factor/Condition chosen: Amount of water
Amount of water will also be my independent variable.
Dependent Variable will be the growth of the plants - the height of the plants.
controlled variable: Type of seed
Controlled Variable: Number of seeds
Controlled Variable: Dimensions of container
5 set of containers: range of independent variable -
1st container: 1 cup of water
2nd container: 1/2 cup of water
3rd container: 1/3 cup of water
4th container: 1/4 cup of water
5th container: No water

Apparatus: 3 moong dal seeds, five containers, thirty centimeter ruler, four measuring cups of 237 ml, 118 ml, 79 ml and 59 ml, respectively.
Apparatus:
Manipulation of variables in method: For IV: Repeat this step with the other four containers and fill in 1 cup of water, 1/2 cup of water, 1/3 cup of water and 1/4 cup of water.
Manipulation of variables in method: For DV: Measure the growth of the plants using the ruler. Place is next to the glass, vertically and note down the quantity.
Manipulation of variables in method: For CV: Make sure to keep the amount of seed, type of seed and amount of soil same throughout the experiment.
Controlled Variable: Type of water
Research Question: How does the amount of water affect the growth of the plant, given that there is no significant change in the type of water, number of seeds, type of seed and dimensions of container?
