Older people with drug problems face significant health issues including the effects of premature ageing and the complex causes and results of their drug use range of complex needs, including being very isolated and experience significant underlying physical and mental health problems. They are not engaging well with existing services are tend to drop out of services on a regular basis.
This group is at high risk of fatal overdose and dying of other causes if they are not retained in care.

Recovery - a course of action which an individual is able to progress on their alcohol or drug use, towards life as an active and contributing member of society. Recovery is most effective when service users needs and aspirations become the central core of the care and treatment. Recovery is an aspirational person centred process.
Recovery will mean different things and different times to individuals - learning knowledge and skills to prevent relapse, rebuild broken relationships, forge new ones, and actively engage in meaningful activities.
