PLANT CELL ADAPTATION - Coggle Diagram
PLANT CELL ADAPTATION
Xylem
- end walls of these cells get digested to from a continuous tube
- no hindrance to flow of water and minerals
- tracheid
in xylem vessels are dead cells
- don't need energy for cellular functions
all energy used to draw up water
- thick walls containing lignin
(xylem fibre)
- this provides support to the plant in high pressure
-
Phloem
-
- sieve tube
has perforated end walls called 'sieve plates'
- alive but may lose their nuclei
- allows sugar to pass through
-
- companion cells
for active transport of sugars
-
- no nucleus & limited cytoplasm
- allows dissolved sugars to move through the cell interior
Root Hair Cell
- can absorb water and dissolved minerals more effectively
