JORDAN'S MORAL MIND MAP
PROTESTS
Protests like the ones in Portland and all across the country often get me thinking about what I would do in that situation and also make me more aware of what’s happening in our country. Although I don’t agree with everything protestors are doing, I still agree with their message, and that changes how I interact with people of color as I know understand their struggle.
-
THE BIBLE
Ever since I was a kid I relied on the bible for moral examples and I still do up to this day. Although I don’t dig into the bible too much anymore, I still remember some of the bigger lessons like the golden commandment and that influences my decisions in almost everything.
-
MY DAD
Like my Mom, my Dad is religious and offers his perspective on certain things as well. He’s a little stricter on the religion bit but his advice is always golden and I hold some of his lessons close to my heart up to this day.
-
POLITICS
The constant clash between Liberal and Conservative views often gets me thinking about my views on certain moral matters such as abortion. Up to this day, I don’t lean either side but share certain moral views with either side.
-
MY SISTER
My sister isn’t as religious and is more of a liberal person and offers her viewpoints on everyday things which opens my eyes to a ton of issues. She’s very vocal about a lot of things going on in which broadens my perspective about the racial struggle in our country.
-
GOOD DEEDS
Good deeds I see on the internet help restore my faith in humanity sometimes. They also help me realize that not all people are as bad as they seem.
-
SOCIAL JUSTICE CLASS
In S.J Class we dig into morality a bit and I can say in the one week I’ve had the class I’ve learned a bit. Not only that, but I have been exposed to perspectives that I’ve never thought of which makes me more aware.
FOOTBALL
Football has taught me a number of things throughout my three years playing especially about other people. It has taught me about brotherhood and the fact that if you put in enough effort, you can achieve a lot of things.
-
MY MOM
My mom always offers a religious perspective on everything which helps open my mind on certain things. Whether it’d be on lying or something major, her religious lectures always make me rethink my decisions beforehand.
-
MUSIC
For as long as I can remember, I have always been a lyrical guy and lyrics have always mattered to me when listening to a song. So not only does it serve as a source of motivation, but some songs also give insight into people’s lives who are less fortunate than me which makes me more compassionate and grateful.
