The artist may be inspired by something with a collaborative nature, but his interpretation is purely personal. This is more common in abstract pieces of art.
Both Individuality and collaboration are part of art making. However, the personal interpretation is the most important part. In some types of art, the importance may vary. For example, a realistic portrait might be more collaborative than individual
Pollock's pieces are an abstract manifestation of his emotions.
"Painting is self-discovery, every good artist paints what he is". He discovers her own personal self through art, there is no one else involved.

When creating a piece of art the artist is inspired. The inspiration is from something or someone (including the artist himself). In all three cases, someone other than the artist is involved. Therefore, the process is in fact collaborative although there might not be a direct link between the people.
The Mona Lisa is a portrait of Lisa de Giocondo. The work was collaborative as Da Vinci used her as the model of the Mona Lisa
WOK: Imagination

In some occasions, new theories are developed by individuals from scratch. The work is original.
Nevertheless, the the maths or basic science used as a basis was already developed by someone else. But, as this does not contribute to the originality of the idea, we don't consider it important.

Newton's theory of gravitation suggested the existence of a new force that had not been theorized before. The idea was purely of Newton, and completely original.
The Cavendish experiment used Newton's theory of gravitation in order to estimate the mass of the earth.
In the NS, the knowledge is built cumulatively. Every scientist builds new theories from the work of another (usually from the past). The collaboration might not be direct, they both working together, but by using someone else theory, it is collaborative as well.

WOK: Reason.
Reason is both collaborative and individual. Big paradigm shifts are usually caused by logical and rational ideas never thought of before (original). However, these are later developed by others, or used as the basis for new theories.
