It represent a completed activity that may or may not have been recent.

Present Perfect

Present Perfect continuous

Similar Meanings with Continuing Time up to Now
They are not always the same. It can show intense or emotional situation.
Examples:
Present Perfect:

about this for days.

for an hour.
Present Perfect Continuous:

ve been waiting
for an hour. I'm very annoyed.

ve been thinking
about this for days. I can't stop.
Some verbs can be used in both and the meaning doesn't change.
