"No!" I screamed at him. "I'm fourteen! I've been fourteen for a month! And I'm in it as much as you are."
In the end Pony Kinda gets over Johnny and Dally's deaths but he develops Johnny's kindness and Dally's toughness

At the end of the book Soda cried when Pony and Darry were fighting and made Pony and Darry promise to stop fighting
Soda enjoys racing, fighting, and dancing

“I think I like it better when the old man’s hittin’ me.” Johnny sighed. “At least then I know he knows who I am.”
"This is my fault," Johnny said in a miserable voice. He had stopped crying when I started. "For bringin' a little thirteen-year-old kid along. You ought to go home. You can't get into any trouble. You didn't kill him."
