Chapter 6 Phonetics: The Sounds of Language - Coggle Diagram

- - - - To articulate the interdental sounds, one inserts the tip the tongue between the upper and lower teeth.
    - - Alveolar sounds are articulated by raising the front part of the tongue to the alveolar ridge.
    - - When we produce [f], [v] we articulate these sounds by touching the bottom lip to the upper theeth
    - - When we produce [p], [b], [m] we articulate by bringing both lips together
    - - The front part of the tongue is raised to a point on the hard palate just behind the alveolar ridge.
    - - Another class of sounds is produced by raising the back of the tongue to the soft palate or velum.
    - - Its sound is from the flow of air through the open glottis. The tongue and lips are usually in the position for the production of the following vowel.
      - There is no arflow restriction in pronuncing [h] consonant
    - - Uvular sounds are produced by raising the back of the tongue to the uvula, the fleshy appendage that hangs down in the back of the throat.
