catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI)
symptoms: fever, chills, elevated white blood cell count, swelling/discomfort/pus around catheter site
surgical site infection (SSI)
symptoms: delayed healing, fever, pain, tenderness
central line-associated infection (CLASBI)
symptoms: fever, redness/soreness around central line
ventilator-associated pnemnonia (VAP)
symptoms: low oxygen levels, changes in breathing, fever
statistics
On any given day, about 1 in 31 hospital patients has at least one healthcare-associated infection
Nationally, among acute care hospitals there was about 8-12% statistically significant decrease in CAUTI, CLABSI, and hospital onset
3% of hospitalized patients in the 2015 survey had one or more HAI.
Overall, about 9% decrease in CLABSI between 2017 and 2018
