Qualities And Qualifications
Required For Physiotherapy
Qualifications
Required
To be able to get onto a physiotherapy degree you'll usually need around 3 A levels including a biological science and/or PE. Along with this you'd need 5 qualifications at GCSE level grading A-C including English, Maths and Science.
Instead of A levels you could have a BTEC level 3 grade however, it depends what course you're on and what University you are planning to go to. For the course I’m on- BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Sport And Exercise Science you would need at least 1112 UCAS points but some universities would require you to have 120 UCAS points.
Improvements
I have all the GCSEs grade's that are required and in my first year of Level 3 Sport And Exercise Science i got a distinction* which is around 90 credits so to improve oi could aim for a similar grade again so i would be able to achieve the 120 credits or more.
Quality
Required
To become a physiotherapist you need to have good commutation skills, within this occupation you need to be confident to talk to patients. Patients will need to understand their injuries and have clear knowledge on what's wrong with them and how they can correct their errors through certain exercises or procedures.
What I have
I have good communication skills and have the confidence to speak to lots of people and all different ages. I also have the ability and confidence to give people advice.
Improvements
Sometimes I don't have as good communication skills if I don't feel as confident in the knowledge i have. If I wasn't as sure what was wrong with a patient I wouldn't be as talkative. I would need to work on this by ensuring I am as confident in all situations
Quality
Required
You'll need the skill of being observant to become a physiotherapist because you'll need to be able to perceive what is the problem with the patient and how it can be corrected. Being observant is significant because physios need to be able to see the uniqueness with every patient.
What I have
I would say I have good observation skills because within my work or during netball games, I am able to see my weaknesses and how I can correct them next time.
Improvements
I need to improve how quickly I observe things such as sometimes I don't notice a change or a weakness until slightly after it occurs and that would be a disadvantage for physiotherapy as you need to be able to help the patient with their injuries as soon as possible.
Quality
Required
To be a successful physiotherapist you need to have science acumen, throughout the career you will need to make lots of scientific judgement and have the scientific knowledge to be able to help patients. It is also not only about the physical parts, a [physio will need to be able to analyse data and perform measurements.
What I have
Throughout School and College I have been developing my scientific skills and knowledge through the basic biology in school to progressing to anatomy and physiology. Also being taught how to analyse data and measuring reliably and accurately.
Improvements
To be able to improve my science awareness and skills, I need to focus on physiology in my second year of college and revise hard to get the best grade i can in the exam.
