An example is a termite cathedral and it starts to build up carbon dioxide. The termites that are working where the carbon dioxide is trapped will die, and then the other termites that are working where carbon dioxide escapes, will survive bringing in new termites to work where the carbon dioxide doesn't get trapped
These are things that could appear in later generations, but skip early generations due to natural selection
