Constant movement of 2 tectonic plates clashing each other.
Earthquakes:
Measurements
Intensity
Varies on the damage done to the infrastructure and the surroundings
Magnitude
Is measured by a seismometer to check and test the magnitude of the ground seeing how strong it is
Kinds of Tectonic Plates
Foot Wall
Hanging Wall
Cause of Earthquakes
Faults are fractures that move along in-between 2 tectonic plates relative one another in a parallel motion
Kinds of Earth Quake Faults
Normal Fault
Occurs when the Hanging Wall slide off the Foot Wall
Reverse Fault
Occurs when the Foot Wall slides under the Hanging Wall / Hanging Wall slides in an upward direction against the Foot Wall
Strike-Slip Fault
When 2 plates slide against the other causing an earth quake.
If you stand in one plate and the plate opposite to it slides left, its a left lateral fault
If you stand on one plate and the opposite plate slides right, its a right lateral fault
