Exercises
Create several sample documents with different subject, time period, etc. Give students a transcription and have them add points where they would place annotation. Can we do this using hypothes.is or Perusall, or some other shared plaform? Maybe create a heat map that shows where people would edit? - maybe better in the notes section
It would be cool if students could submit transcriptions here and have other students tell them what they would want annotated. - maybe better in the notes section
Fill out a survey and select the kinds of non-note annotation you plan to use in your edition-- see how your plans compare with other students
Interviews
Someone from the Joseph Smith Papers to talk about the decision process they used to develop all those directories and glossaries.

Discussion Questions
Discuss the annotation you suggested for the sample document (probably a question for each sample). What did you find difficult to determine whether to annotate? Where did you think it was easier?
Is there such a thing as too much annotation? How do you decide what things need to be explained and what do not?
