Jumping Monkey Hill - Coggle Diagram
Jumping Monkey Hill
Based on the author's own experience, which reflects back into the story where the main character writes a story based on something she has experienced
"Edward chewed at his pipe thoughtfully before he said that homosexual stories of the sort weren't reflective of Africa really" p. 108 -> the author was once criticized that her stories were not "authentically African"
-
"which Africa?" p. 108 is a powerful statement because there is not only one Africa, it is a large place but is often generalised
Edward calls her story not realistic, however the main character says that it is based on her own experience (last page)

Edward continuously stares at her: "the Zimbabwean said Edward's eyes were always leering when he looked at Ujunwa; the white South African said Edward would never look at a white woman like that because what he felt for Ujunwa was a fancy without respect" p109 -> shows that Edward objectified her; did not have respect for her as a woman.

Nobody had names apart from the main character, Isabel and Edward. Everyone else was referred to by their nationalities.
Refers to how people never recognized people of African ethnicity as humans, but rather only by their skin colour

-
"the kind of accent some rich Nigerians tried to mimic but ended up sounding unintentionally funny" p. 96
Relates to the author's own childhood being influenced by Britain and thinking that sounding and mimicking them would make them sound "posh"
