to successed one must have fun games ,
to make great games depends on the popularity of the console
but the sales pf the consol depend on the games available for it
the video game market
Before playstation Nintando and Saga dominated because they ahd control over hardware and sfotware ( they had developped their own games and has immense brands , mario and Sonic)
Saga Developped CD console Nintando wanted the same partenered with Sony to make the same
SAGA CD Console fails Nintando gives up on the parternarship with Sony
SONY contiumes working on playstation alone ( 1994 sony entres the ganing industry)
Sony doesnt have much expertise in the gaming industry and partners with namco and psygenesis :
Sony involves them in the devlopement of the console an gives them early access to the console
they create kills apps for Sony
The use of CD gave sony consol an advantage :
Lower cost
Rapid production
Better games ( effets and music etc )
Encouraged developpers to make games for Sony
SONY Playsattion won
SAGA AND Nintando were in a success trap Sony could be more innovative
SONY had the tech knowledge to make the console
Join venture and abosbtion of companies with competncies sony didnt have
Sony sale channels targeted mature wealthy adults rather than the traditional teaangers in videogame stores
The hardware allowed for pirated software
They developed successful games
Sony marketed the console as a ganing nit console not a multimedia device
Sony had experience in selling CD unlike Nintando and Saga
Used nintando and saga issues with developpers against them
Mistake sony gave retails larger share of sales than compeititors
