Capital Budgeting
Capital Bugeting is the process by which organizations determine wether their long term investments, such as new machinery, new plants, new products, and research development projects are worth pursuing. It is the investment decisions of corporates and institutions
Do these capital investments create value for institutions, given the cost to purchase?
The objective of capital budgeting decisions is to select the investments in assets that will increase the value of the company. It is said that the corporate objective is to maximize shareholders wealth.
Capital budgeting is important because these investments involve large cash outlays, they create value when the cash flows they generate are worth more than they cost and once made these investments are not easily reversed.
