Shoe Drawer by Ikea, Aesthetics, Environment, Safety, Cost, Customer, Size…
-
Aesthetics
It uses chipboard coated in white paint, leaving a refined finish on the product
-
-
-
I think I will use a two tone colour scheme as this drawer is very plain, this does not restrict me to just colours however
Environment
-
It is made from Painted Chipboard, Polypropylene thermoforming plastic and metal screws and dowels
-
-
Safety
-
There are no sharp edges however the corners are not rounded off to a large extent, however they don't come to a point either, the drawers dont have any small components
-
The designer could have intergrated more rounded off corners however that is hard to do with chipboard as it is hard to work with apart from cutting it straight
Cost
-
-
The cost proves that you can make something basic with basic materials for a small amount of money that will last. The drawer is over 10 years old and therefore it has been great value for money
Customer
-
The design is very generic and simple, anyone could buy this
-
Size
The drawer is very light, it is easily liftable by one person
The drawer isn't very large, being 1.5m tall however only 20 cm thick and 50 cm wide. This is a regular size for a shoe drawer
I think this is a suitable size however it needs to be a little thicker and deeper as you cannot fit two pairs of adult shoes in a drawer as shown in the pictures
Function
-
It mostly does its job successfully, the drawers have plenty of space for items like dog leads and you can fit multiple pairs of childrens shoes within the drawers with ease
However when you try to store two pairs of mens shoes that are large, like mine which are size 10.5, they are two wide to be put in side by side, however if you put them in arranged like they are in a shoe box they are too wide for the draw
Materials
The product is made from chipboard, polypropylene and steel
-
For the price point I think their choice of materials was correct, to use real wood would make the product vastly more expensive and add factors like warping which Ikea cannot control and would limit the lifespan of the product
