during numa's reign, the etruscan army and navy had expanded and tullus helped rome meet this challenge
War with Alba
romans and albans had been allies
alban king wanted compensation for damage cause by roman cattle raiders, but tullus refused and both armies mobilised for war
when the albans set up camp near rome, the alban king died and was replaced by a dictator called mettius
mettius attempted diplomacy and both sides agreed to avoid war
the story of the three albans
they agreed to settle their differences between two teams of triplets
the Horatii would fight for rome and the curiatii for alba
the final roman triplet managed to kill all three of the albans one by one which handed rome victory and control of alba
mettius didn't accept defeat and instead formed a secret alliance with the etruscans
in battle, mettius and his men betrayed the romans and began fighting alongside the etruscans
tullus was aware of mettius' betrayal and inspired his army to defeat the etruscans which they did
after battle, tullus executed mettius' by tearing his body apart with 4 chariots
Death
when plague struck rome, tullus didn't let his armies rest to care for their families, which cause unrest and division
when he failed to perform his religious duties, the gods punished him by killing him with a thunderbolt
Political Initiatives
he gave land to homeless citizens and built new farms
expanded rome with victories over alba and the sabines at the battle of Malitosa Forest
he created new districts for each of the alban groups
