Who wrote
I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you.
founder of Corinthians church
Who read
Now, brothers,1 if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I benefit you unless I bring you some yrevelation or knowledge or prophecy or zteaching?
christain community of Corinthians
they are eager for the manifestations of the Spirit
When and where
AD 53-54 at Ephesus
what early said
if speaking in tongues, how to benefit others without the revelation or knowledge or teaching, prophescy
people understanding the distinctive notes from lifeless instruments
how others know what was said from the non-intelligent speech you uttered
fundamentally, many different languages are meaningful & people are not speaking into the air
strive to excel in building up the church
The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church. 5 Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but xeven more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up.
what now said
Therefore,...
pray with my spirit or in tongue, how to benefit yourself or others because it could not be understood. Actually, sing and praise need mind to understand
even giving thanks to God: in case of speaking in tongue, others do not realize it and how they can say amen together?
consequence: would it be fruitful in the tongue praying or praising or thanksgiving?
advice, as an experienced tongue speaking believer
Nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind in order to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue.
what later said
not be children in your thinking, but rather be mature in your thinking
Lord will speak to those people by people of strange tongues or by the lips of foreigners
tongues are a sign for unbelievers, not believers while prophecy is a sign for believers, not unbelievers
what would an outsider or unbeliever say if they saw all speak in tongues in church?
my reflection and actions
respect those church members speaking in tongues and pray that some members can interpret it.
I don't know how I can speak in tongues. I believe God will do it for me so I can speak to God in tongues YOU like, that becomes a sign to unbelievers
God give me prophesy in Your will for those church members you like.
Pray that our speaking in tongues would become a sign to unbelievers and make them declare that God is really among you.
Pursue Love first; also seek earnestly the spiritual gift of prophesy
