CHEMICAL REACTIONS
DECOMPOSITION REACTIONS
A neutralization reaction is the reaction of an acid and a base.
HX + BOH BX + HOH
Acid Base Salt Water
A neutralization reaction produces a salt and water.
H2SO4 (aq) + 2 KOH (aq) K2SO4 (aq) + 2 H2O (l)
SINGLE REPLACEMENT REACTIONS
Fe(s) + 2 HCl (aq) FeCl2 (aq) + H2 (g)
2 Na(s) + 2 H2O (l) 2 NaOH (aq) + H2 (g)
Ca(s) + 2 H2O (l) Ca(OH)2(aq) + H2(g)
DOUBLE REPLACAMENT REACTIONS
If either AD or CB is an insoluble compound, a precipitate will appear and there is a chemical
reaction.
BaCl2(aq) + K2CrO4(aq) BaCrO4(s) + 2 KCl(aq)
o If no precipitate is formed, there is no reaction.
NaCl (aq) + LiNO3 (aq) NaNO3 (aq) + LiCl (aq)
NEUTRALIZITION REACTIONS
A neutralization reaction is the reaction of an acid and a base.
HX + BOH BX + HOH
Acid Base Salt Water
A neutralization reaction produces a salt and water.
H2SO4 (aq) + 2 KOH (aq) K2SO4 (aq) + 2 H2O (l)
COMBUSTIONS REACTION
They are generally rapid reactions that produce flames.
Most involve oxygen (from the air) as a reactant.
Also involve a fuel that reacts with O2 to form one or more oxidized products
COMBINATION REACTIONS
The reaction of a metal with oxygen
The reaction of a nonmetal with oxygen
The reaction of a metal and a nonmetal
