Macbeth- act 3: scene 1
The scene opens with Banquo's soliloquy and this reveals the state of his character at this time in the play- Soliloquys reveal character's thoughts
-
-
-
-
"we'll take to-morrow"
The repetition of the future tense throughout the scene shows that Macbeth focuses on the future, and what is to come, and this reflects in his behaviours
-
In Kurzel's 2015 production of the film, Macbeth plan the murder of Banquo as he watches him ride away with Fleance
This is symbolic of how he control the fate of others but not himself, as he can see Banquo ride way to his death but can't see his own coming for him, in the form of Macduff, when the time comes
-
-
-
-
"Fleance, his son... must embrace the fate of that dark hour"
-
Macbeth knows Fleance is the one who will ruin his work and life and he knows that, if Fleance dies, then so does Banquo's blood line and therefore destroy the prophecy
Ironically, this is the sanest thing Macbeth says from act 2 onwards
This is significant as it shows Macbeth's decent into madness as he is now killing for his own will, and not that of his wife
