Research is difficult to generalise to humans. Behaviour can be different. Lorenz used Geese which are mobile from birth. Lowers external validity of animal research but has helped in development of theory.

Infants form attachment with mother in first 7 months and approximately 18 months with Father (secondary attachment)
The role of the father
The quality of the fathers play with infants was related to the quality of adolescent attachments. Fathers have have a different role in attachment one that is more to do with play and stimulation and less to do with nurturing.
