TYPES OF CHEMICAL REACTIONS
Neutralisation Reaction
It involves the combination of H+ ions and OH- ions to produce water.
It is when an acid and a base react to form water and a salt
.
Combination Reactions
It is a reaction which two or more substances are combined to form a new,more complex substance under suitable conditions.
İt is also called synthesis reaction
.
Types of Combination Reactions
A metal react with oxygen to form an oxide
Non-metals react with metals to form ionic compounds
A non-metal reacts with oxygen to form an oxide
=> H2 + O2 → H2O =>CO + O2 → CO2 =>Li2O + CO2 → Li2CO3
Combustion Reaction
In it a substance reacts with oxygen gas, releasing energy in the form of light and heat.
involve the reaction of a hydrocarbon with oxygen.
=>CH4 + O2 → CO2 + H2O =>C4H10 + O2 → CO2 + H2O
=>C2H4 + O2 → CO2 + H2O
They are generally rapid reactions that can produce flames
Decomposing Reactions
Which a compound breaks down into two or more simpler products
Heat is usually required to start it
.
=>Mg3N2 → Mg + N2 =>KClO3 → KCl + O2 =>NH4NO3 → N2O + H2O
The reaction is also considered to be a decomposition reaction even when one or more of the produces are still compounds
For example, calcium carbonate decomposes into calcium oxide and carbon dioxide.
CaCO3(s)→CaO(s)+CO2(g)
Ionic compounds containing oxygen often turn into a metal+ an oxygen gas.after the reaction
Replacement Reactions
Single Replacement
=>Zn + Cu(NO3)2 → Zn(NO3)2 + Cu =>2 NaCl(aq) + F2(g) → 2 NaF(s) + Cl2(g)
=>Cl2 + KI → KCl + I2
is a chemical reaction in which an element and a compound react and as a result one element is substituted for another element in a compound.
A more active metal displaces another less
active metal in a compound.
It generates a new element and a new compound as products.
Double Replacement
=>AgNO3 + LiCl → AgCl + LiNO3 =>K2CO3 + MgF2 → KF + MgCO3
=>NaOH + H2SO4 → Na2SO4 + H2O
involve two ionic compounds reacting to form two different compounds:
There are always two compounds as reactants and two different compounds as products
They switch anions in an aqueous solution and produce an insoluble substance.
If either the reactants is an insoluble compound, a precipitate will appear and there is a chemical reaction.If not,then there is not a chemical reaction.
