Carter's Success/Failure
Failure: Pardons Vietnam War draft evaders, criticized by much of the country
Success: Brings Israel and Egypt together to sign Camp David Accords and create some peace in the Middle East
Success: gains popularity through his meeting with mayors and officials across country, where he tries to figure out how to fix country
Failure: loses all that gained popularity when he fires the entire cabinet in an attempt to "prove a point"

Success: On last day as standing President, Carter makes an agreement to get the American hostages in Iran home
Watergate
After these events, McCord and few others take fall, and "Deep Throat" tells reporters Woodward & Bernstein that it connects to Nixon. Haldeman & Ehrlichman are forced to resign as more connections are made to Nixon
Two main events: Burglary of Ellsberg's psychiatrist"s office, and break-in of National Democratic Committee at Watergate hotel
News leaks that Nixon has been secretly recording every White House conversation, but refuses to turn over tapes. More White House men are fired (Saturday Night Massacre)
Important People: Nixon, CREEP, Plumbers (stopped leaks), Haldeman & Ehrlichman, Mitchell, McCord, "Deep Throat," and Woodward & Bernstein
Nixon eventually turns over a edited tape (18.5 min missing). When the real tapes are demanded and released, Nixon resigns before he can be impeached.
Nixon Foreign Policy
He implements the Triangular Diplomacy to pit the USSR and China against each other, while the US look favorable and are in control
Nixon traveled to both Egypt and Israel to provide some support during Arab-Israeli war, trying to create peace
In 1972, Nixon goes to USSR to agree on limiting the production of nuclear and ballistic arms (SALT)
Nixon goes to China, meets with government officials, and eases trade restrictions
Ford's Success/Faliure

Failure: Pardons Nixon from all crimes during Presidency, loses all support and popularity in public
Failure: Ford creates WIN to stop inflation, it instead further hurts the economy
Success: Signed the Helsinki Accords, creating a detente in the Cold War, gains peace with USSR for first time since WWII
The Election of Nixon
1968
Campaigned on getting peace with honor and freedom from Vietnam as main goal, was not able to complete in first term

Campaigned on the basis that a peace deal was in place for Vietnam, was signed in January of 1973, could be assumed Nixon let war go on longer than necessary so he could win.
