PROTEINS (C,H,O,N) - Coggle Diagram
PROTEINS (C,H,O,N)
Functions:
- Repair cells and build new ones.
-
- They are found structures such as hair, nails and organs.
- They transport in the cells and body. Example: Blood protein (hemoglobin) carries Oxygen and CO2.
- They carry out reactions in the form of ''enzymes''.
Types
- Storage proteins: Eggs and polen stores proteins.
- Contractile proteins: Muscles contract and provide movement.
- Transport protein:Blood proteins and cell proteins provide transport.
- Structural proteins: Hair and nails, animal horns and most of the organs are made up of proteins.
- Enzymes: Help speed up chemical reactions
-
Monomer:
Amino acids
20 types
8-9 of the amino acids we can not produce and receive from food and these are called ''essential amino acids''.
Structure: In all amino acids there is one carboxyl group (COOH) and one amino group (NH2) but side chain change provides difference in amino acids.
