Human causes of rapid Climate Change
What are greenhouse gases?
A greenhouse gas is a gas that absorbs and emits radiant energy within the thermal infrared range. Greenhouse gases cause the greenhouse effect on planets.
Types of greenhouse gases:
Water vapor
This is water in gas from, like steam above a boiling pot or water evaporating off a lake. It forms cloud sand rains back on earth. This can cause a cooling effect
Water vapor blocks heat from escaping, so it gets warmer so it makes even more water evaporate once this process happens it can happen again more easily
Methane
Methane, made up of carbon and hydrogen, is a normal gas released by wetlands, growing rice, raising animal using natural gas, and mining coal.
It traps a lot of heat scientists consider it the second most important contribute rot global warming.
Carbon dioxide
Made up of carbon and oxygen, CO2 is all around us naturally. Its comes from decaying and living organisms, and from volcanos
CO2 is released when burning fossil fuels like coal and oil. It is the most important contributor to human-caused global warming
CFC
Fluorinated gases are not created in nature. They damage the protective ozone layer and are powerful greenhouse gases.
Ozone
Up in atmosphere where the planes fly, the ozone layers blocks the suns radiation. Which helps protect us from the powerful rays?
Close to the ground, ozone acts like a greenhouse gases and is formed by burning gas in cars and factories
What is a greenhouse?
A greenhouse is a structure with walls and roof made chiefly of transparent material, such as glass, in which plants requiring regulated climatic conditions are grown. These structures range in size from small sheds to industrial-sized buildings. A miniature greenhouse is known as a cold frame
What causes Global warming
Deforestation
Deforestation is the permanent removal of trees to make room for something besides forest. This can include clearing the land for agriculture or grazing, or using the timber for fuel, construction or manufacturing. Forests cover more than 30% of the Earth's land surface. Well when trees are cut down. The surplus carbon is stored in the plant, helping it to grow. When trees are cut down and burned or allowed to rot, their stored carbon is released into the air as carbon dioxide. In addition, this is how deforestation and forest degradation contribute to global warming.
Overgrazing
Overgrazing occurs when plants are exposed to intensive grazing for extended periods of time, or without sufficient recovery periods. It can be caused by either livestock in poorly managed agricultural applications, game reserves, or nature reserves. The most direct impact of overgrazing on the environment is that animals emit large amounts of greenhouse gases and cause global warming
Effects of Global warming
Hotter days
Water
More frequent and intense extreme weather events
Rising sea levels
Endangering species
Sustainable Development:
Sustainable development can be defined as development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainability goals address the global challenges, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice.
