Deforestation
✮80% of the worlds forests have been destroyed since 1900
✮Consumers should really look to buy approved sources of timber where at least one tree is replanted
✮Slash and burn - trees are felled and then burned. The ash gives the soil nutrients for a short amount of time and crops are grown/ cattle graze
✮Once burned, the forest doesn't grow back
✮Wildlife looses its home which the forest once supported.

✮Calculating carbon footprint is a way of estimating greenhouse gas emissions caused by process, person, event or organisation

✮Looks after the welfare of employees and enforces the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974)
Employers are obliged to provide a safe working environment
Landfill sites
✮Waste is buried which results in methane gas from rotting matter
✮The methane gas is collected and burned to generate heat or electricity
✮Unsorted waste directly into landfill is the least sustainable option
This happens on a large scale, causing environmental concerns about toxic chemicals and heavy metals leaching into the ground
