Energy pyramid
A energy pyramid is a graphical model of energy flow in a community. The different levels represent the different groups of living organism.
-
Example: At the bottom of the pyramid is the producer, then the primary consumer which eats the plant is in the middle of the pyramid. Then at the top of the pyramid, is the secondary consumer which eats the primary consume.
Example of how they get energy: First the pyramid starts with 1000 units f energy. Next 90% loss. 100 units of energy is loss from the plant into the primary consumer. Next when the secondary consumer eats the primary consumer, 90% of energy is loss, and then 10 units of energy is transferred into the secondary consumer.
