Prevision of the UK Resources
Food
Demand
-
The demand for food by 2037 will have reached over 70 million. when previously in 2015 it was only 64 million.
Imported food
- when transporting food it is very expensive especially by air. We import about 40% of the total food consumption.
Agribusinesses
Agribusiness is intensive farming aimed at maximising the amount of food produced. They have high levels of investment and use modern technology and chemicals.
Organic foods
this means the food are grown without using chemicals. organic food has become increasingly popular. although higher labour costs often make it more expensive.
ENERGY
Demand
The uk's demand for energy has fallen due to not having as much heavy industry and improved energy conservation. In recent years there has been an increasing number of low energy appliences which has made a 60% fall for energy.
Energy mix
The energy mix has changed in the last 25 years . by 2020 the UK aims to meet a 15% of it energy requirement.
Impact of energy exploration
Nuclear
the environmental impacts for nuclear energy include warm waster water harming local ecosystems and there has been a risk for radioactive leaks. The economic impacts include high costs for production and a new project called the Hinkley point plant is set to cost £18 billion.
Wind Farms
wind farms have a high construction cost and can have a negative impact on local economy by reducing visitor numbers. to tourist places. however local homes benefit to having lower energy bills. As for the environmental impacts the visual looks a bit weird but they don't use harmful gasses and can help to reduce the carbon footprint.
Fracking
Fracking is when workers try to extract oil and other rocks from the ground by blowing up the ground. this can lead to a possibility of earthquakes and pollution of underground water sources along with a high cost for extraction.
Water
?
water Quality
to improve the water quality they can manage the quality of the water and filter the water to get rid of any bacteria or other chunks.
Water transfered
The water is moved and transferred by the Rivers Tyne Derwent wear and tees to as far south as Yorkshire. However they have effected the environment and animal habitats. also there are high costs involved.
water demand
the main usage for water is toliet, cleaning and cooking. However 21% of the water is wasted through leakage.
The demand has changed because there has been a growth in population meaning more houses have been built. this means that there will be a higher demand for appliances in the house.
Water supply
: the sources for our water is mainly UK rivers and groundwater aquifer.,There is a pattern for water which includes the south of England which ranks very low in the world terms of water availability. It is made worse through droughts.
