Benefits of a warm-up
Body temperature increase
Increase the range of movement
There will be a gradual increase in effort
Performer will be focused
Skills would of been practiced
Less chance of injury
Increase amount of oxygen being carried to working muscles
Benefits of a Cool-down
Prevents DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness)
Stretches muscles used (can prevent injury)
Gradual reduction in intensity (allows recovery of the body after vigorous exercise)
Aids removal of waste products
Training Season
Pre-season (preparation) -
High intensity, continuous training, interval / circuit etc.
Competition Season (peak) -
Skill-based preparation
Post-Season (transition) -
Stretching, relaxation (ice baths etc.)
Aerobic Training Zone
Calculation:
- Maximum HR - age
Aerobic: 60-80% (use 70%)
Anaerobic: 80-90% (use 85%)
Maximal: 90-100%
Qualitative:
A measure of opinions. More subjective than objective appraisal relating to the quality of a performance rather than the quantity.
Quantitative:
A measurement which has been quantified as a number e.g time in seconds, or goals scored. There are no opinions expressed. It is a fact.
(It is often the case that quantitative scores in fitness tests can be compared to national averages)
