Are artists, content creators and publishers responsible for the their content affecting vulnerable groups in society?
Are modern shows actually interested in presenting neuro-atypical characters or are they just othering them for a neurotypical audiences' entertainment?
The use of the poor and/or the mentally ill as antagonistic characters encourages society to treat these groups with ignorance and malice.
Are modern shows actually interested in presenting minority characters or are they just othering them for the audiences' entertainment?

Performative "wokeness" from corporations undermines the progressive movements they claim to champion
The media's glorification of police has blinded society to police brutality, or even worse, painted the brutality as necessary
Law and Order reboot/ending of B99/ that horrible show Blue Bloods which is weirdly popular with boomers
Fears about "cancel culture" are just fears of the privileged finally being held accountable for their actions

How far should people go to avoid supporting art made by problematic people? Should you dump someone who like Woody Allen movies?
How should society respond to people who use their fame to spout stupid nonsense for garbage people? (Ye and his anti-Semitism and anti-black racism, Tate and his rampant misogyny, Richard Spencer and that idiot NY Times journalist referring to him as a 'dapper white nationalist'
Is public ridicule an appropriate response to stupid, hateful turds spreading dumb talking points?
How explicit or implicit should a private company be about their policies when it comes them continuing to platform people. Must companies list every stupid idea they won't allow people to share? If a company forgot and/or didn't know to specifically cite a particular brand of idiocy, should that company still be allowed to de-platform them?
If we force companies to allow people to speak freely, regardless of their content, we are functionally removing their ability to moderate the behaviour of their users. In this case, shouldn't the company be made a public utility?

Since men are far more likely to be perpetrators of violence in Australia, should exclusively women have legal access to personal defence weapons?
This works more a jumping off part for a broad, more realistic discussion
Daniel Christie's death inspired one-punch laws in NSW, but Detective Inspector Andrew Stamper stressed the importance of personal security after Eurydice Dixon's death. Is this reflective of a problem in how society thinks about violence against women?
Sexism
Sexism in medical industry and the training of doctors leads to serious problems like the under-diagnosis of endometriosis

The use and acceptance of hostile architecture across metropolitan cities is a sign of society's moral failing. The lack of outrage about them is sign of every citizen's personal moral failing.
SAS war crimes
This needs to be more interesting that "war criminals=bad". Is the Australian Defence Force addressing this appropriately? Are critics of how the ADF handles/handled these issues making criticisms in good faith?

Is Albo/Dutton doing well in their role (this topic is normally very boring. If you are going to do it, it is more interesting to attack a politician from the side of their own base, e.g. Albo is failing leftist voters or Dutton is failing conservative voters). I will also want a short discussion with you about this to make sure you actually are interested in this topic, as I don't want to read a bad paraphrasing of one of your relative's political rants, it must be YOUR rant)

You could rally support/volunteers for a third party. You will need to focus a real party. You should also focus on a party/independent that has some political sway (Clive Palmer is just an expensive joke.)
Legal. Be careful. You are writing to persuade a mainstream audience. Do not write a legal studies essay which uses informative techniques over persuasive ones.
We should hold companies/organizations legally responsible for your A.I. being immoral or incompetent
If you are using the auto-drive functionality on a Tesla, and someone is killed in a crash, should Tesla be held accountable?
-
Should the legal system be reformed to ensure that poorer criminals do not receive a harsher sentence that criminals that happen to be wealthy?
Current legal procedures X(student would need to be specific) actively hamper the pursuit of justice
the inevitable existence of jury nullification is a reason that judge trials should be more commonplace
Jury nullification is necessary as a last chance for justice in a system that does not always prioritise justice.
-
Historical. You are writing to persuade a mainstream audience. Do not write a history essay which focus on telling the history of an event. Focus on a moral issue and persuade the audience (this means you will likely need to have a less common valuation of a historical event

Just because people used to like you enough to build a statue of you, doesn't mean that current society has to keep that statue up. Especially if modern society thinks you were a horrible person
-
Judging people in the past by anything other than current moral standards is cowardly and only avoided to protect people who modern individuals wish to deify.
Scientific. You are writing a persuasive piece. The science needs to be a jumping off point for a moral discussion. You are not debating scientific fact (as science doesn't care about persuasion or opinion)
Hoping for individual consumers to change their habits to fight climate change is unrealistic. Heavily regulating, restricting and punishing corporate bodies is the only practical approach despite the adverse effects these changes would have the economy.
The privatization of scientific research limits the potential findings which could help greater society.
The democraticisation of scientific research ensures the existence of research in many fields that would be ignored by a more regimented system.
Politicians are not scientists yet they have control of society's response to dilemmas. Should scientists be given some form of protected and enshrined political power?

Economic/business. Be careful. You are writing to persuade a mainstream audience. Do not write a economics essay which uses informative techniques over persuasive ones.

The government should intervene in the housing market with the goal to give potential homeowners real advantages over people that already own a property

Other tips
Never pick a topic/position because you think Mr DQ likes that position. I have given great marks to articles I thought supported immoral ideas and I have given depressing marks to articles were I even volunteered for that position in my free time. I am marking your use of persuasive techniques, your selection and manipulation of an audience's emotions, the logical consistency of your argument and your call to action.
Pick a real publication. Make sure you have an understanding of that publication's audience. Write for that audience.
Do not write as yourself. 17-18 year olds do not get published in media outlets, and most adults would ignore them. Pretend you are a professional working for the publication as an adult for this task.
You can ignore this IF you are using your own identity as a one of your persuasive techniques. For instance, I once had a student writing about misogyny in Australian GPs and their training. She mentioned that as a 17 year-old girl, multiple male GPs ignored her symptoms of endometriosis. This disease can be tested for and treated, but it often goes underdiagnosed as the abdominal pain is confused for menstrual cramps by GPs despite patients often explicitly saying that the pain feels noticeably different. The student used her history as a child who struggled through years of unnecessary pain to explain to her point-of-view to her audience
Be aware that when I read your drafts, I will be making challenges and notes whenever I spot gaps in logic or when I think arguments need to be more effective. These notes are not a reflection of my actual views. I am playing devil's advocate. My hope is that your final piece will be stronger because I have highlighted the areas that need work
