Hypothesis Testing
Correlation: is a statistical technique that is used to measure and describe the relationship between two variables.
-
Pearson Correlation: measures the degree and the direction of the linear relationship between two variables.
-
-
Partial Correlation: measures the relationship between two variables while controlling the influence of a third variable by holding it constant.
Other correlations have been developed for nonlinear relationships and other types of data. (Special applications of the Pearson Correlation)
-
Point-biserial Correlation: association between two variables where one of the variables is dichotomous.
Phi-coefficient: correlation between two variables, both of which are dichotomous.

-
Hypothesis Test Goal: determine whether the obtained difference between the data and the hypothesis is significantly greater than would expected by chance.
