Mechanism of Action
Risperidone is a SGA with a high 5-HT2A/D2 ratio (it has higher affinity for 5-HT2A receptors than for D2 receptors). According to the dopamine theory of schizophrenia, the mechanism of action of risperidone might involve reduction of dopaminergic neurotransmission in the mesolimbic pathway (Bryant, & Knights, 2015).
