Ligaments in the Knee
Intra-articular structures
lateral meniscus
ring shaped
coronary ligament
extend from joint capsule, attach outer end of med and lateral meniscus to tibial condyle
Med meniscus
C-shaped
attaches to MCL
transverse ligament
connects anterior horn of medial-lateral meniscus
PCL
runs anteromedial from just post to post horn of medial meniscus intercondylar fossa inside of medial femoral condyle
post meniscofemoral ligament
attaches the lateral meniscus to the medial femoral condyle
ACL
runs post-lateral from aterior horn of medial meniscus to intercondylar fossa side of lateral femoral condyle
anterior meniscofemoral ligament
arises from the posterior horn of the lateral meniscus and passes superiorly and medially in front of the posterior cruciate ligament to attach to the lateral surface of medial condyle of the femur
Extra-articular structures
medial collateral ligament
medial epicondyle of femur to medial condyle of tibia
commonly torn with medial meniscus.
lateral collateral ligament
lateral epicondyle of femur to lateral head of fibula
tendon of popliteus, pass deep to it
splits bicep femoris into two parts
medial patella retinaculum
oblique popliteal ligament
recurrent expansion of semimembranosus
reinforces joitn capsule posteriorly
lateral patellar retinaculum
arcuate popliteal ligament
strengthens the joint capsule posterolaterally
arises from posterior aspect of fibular head
passes over popliteus tendon
Quad tendon and patella ligament
stretched between the inferior margin of the patella and the tibial tuberosity
