Plant reproduction
Female flower parts
-
Style
Connects the ovary to the stigma so that the male reproductive cells can travel to the ovary for fertilisation to occur
-
Pollination
-
-
Defintion
The process of the pollen grains from the anther travelling to the stigma for fertilisation to take place
-
-
Seed dispersal
-
Purpose is to disperse the seed away from the parent plant so as to prevent overcrowding and educe competition for sunlight, space, nutrients and water
Germination
After seed dispersal, the seeds will need warmth, water and oxygen to germinate(growing into a seedling)
-
-
Fertilisation
When the pollen grains gets stuck onto the stigma, the pollen grains will produce a pollen tube which will stretch all the way into the ovary, allowing the male reproductive cell to travel through the pollen tube and fuse with the ovule in the ovary
-
After fertilisation the ovary, style and stigma will expand into a fruit and the petals, male parts will wither off. Then seed dispersal will occur
