Race and Food security/access to food
socioeconomic status in the United States
Socioeconomic status and race are very correlated
People of color do not make as much as white folk do in the workplace, and are generally more likely to be in the working class
The wage gap for women is a serious problem of inequality
The wage gap for people of other races that are not white is also a serious problem
The intersections of race and gender have an impact on socioeconomic status within the United States
This, in turn, affects what foods people of color have access to, and what types of companies place their stores in specific communities

Police brutality, racial profiling, and mass incarceration effect black folk primarily today in the United States
The civil rights movement and the fight for “equal” rights for black and brown folks in the U.S. was a step in the right direction, but not an end-all solution

Also the #MeToo movement as an important social movement for all women

There is also the issue of obesity in the United States
Hunger and Obesity are both problems that have roots from access to food in the United States, and whether some people even have it, or how “good” their access is to specific foods (i.e. fast food or whole foods)
There is a large number of people who struggle with hunger in the United States
An example of this is the free and reduced lunch programs at schools below the collegiate level for students who cannot afford lunches
Racism and socioeconomic status impact food security and access to food
Food banks and food stamps as resources for those who do not have access to food
Some folks and communities have very different access to specific foods than other people and communities
Politics in the United States
This has really affected race issues in the United States
An example of this is ICE and immigration into the United States, which creates many strong opinions
Politics are very complicated, but people enjoy keeping up with them and supporting their representatives for their party while opposing other parties
In the past 18 years we have gone through 8 years of a Republican president, then 8 years of the first black president, who was also from the Democratic party, and now 2 years of a president with limited experience in the government as the Republican candidate
Bipartisanship is viewed as something that shouldn’t be done
The distrust of the media and journalism in the United States
