After nearly 200 years of an investigations Campbell Island may finally be free of rats.
There were an estimated 150 mice per hectare – and each of the creatures fed about 15 to 20 times a day.
Campbell Island involved the careful placement of 65,500 kilograms of mouse-targeted bait across 2,045 hectares.
Its a 5 year project and they estimate that 200,000 rats are were killed.
