The plot is not really put in order. The author jumps around the timeline of the book quite a bit sometimes not saying so.

Themes
Death and survival: since the book is about a pandemic that sweeps the world and kills 99 percent of the population, death and survival is probably one of the biggest themes throughout the entire book.
Art and Shakespeare: The group of people are a traveling band of artists that preform on stage in Shakespearian style.
Faith: Many people have faith in the prophet. In times of depression many people take faith in a divine being. They believe that this is the only thing to do in this situation.

Plot
In the beginning of the book, an actor named Arthur dies on stage in the middle of the performance. This marks the beginning of the end of the world. Jeevan then got a call saying that there was a plague that was released. The novel then takes a huge jump in time; 20 years to be exact. Now the storyline is following a band of traveling musicians and Shakespearian actors. They go through a town expecting to check up on two more members that they had left there before because they were having a child. They sensed a lot of drama in the town and left immediately. In a flash back, we learn about Mirandas art project, "Dr. Eleven." Kirstens entire family had died in the beginning of the plague so she had no more family around. Javeen and Frank have been surviving this whole time in the Franks apartment. Frank then kills himself because of his disability. He believes that frank will have a better chance to survive if he is no longer alive to hinder his efforts. The airplane that Clark was on was grounded and never made it to the terminal. Clark Elizabeth and Tyler then decide that they will live permanently in the terminal of the airport. Kristen and Augist then go to save this boy that is being held by the profit and as the profit is talking, she recognizes a quote from Dr Eleven and momentarily confuses the profit and the little boy comes back and kills him. Then the boy kills himself. The book ends with a lot of the people reuniting at the airport. Clark realizes that Miranda was the creator of Dr Eleven when he reads a scene that describes when he and Miranda first met in a diner so long ago. basically Kristen and the Symphony defeat the Prophet and discover how interconnected their lives are, finally making a home at a safe haven called "The Museum of Civilization."
