Food security and farming
Factors that affect it
increase in population
increase in birth rates
decrease in death rates
as developed countries change different food is wanted
needs to be imported from developing countries
decreases their food security
already scarce food resources become even more scarce
Farming can be affected by
new pests and new pathogens which kill the plants and food
lack of rain in hotter countries so then loss of live stock and food due to no water can lead to famine
input costs are high for farming e.g
seeds
machinery
livestock
thes are all very expensive and then can make it too expensive for some farmers so then less food
too much to maintain food production as well
Conflicts
conflicts can affect the water security because they may be too dangerous to get too
they can affect the food supply because it maybe forcefuly taken away from the people for the army
Over fishing
fish stocks are declining
fishing to much so theres less fish
some types of fishes food or prey may be scarce so some types of fish die out
for example cod in the north west Atlantic
to combat this we need to fish at the same or slower speed than the fish breeding so that it is sustainable
lower the fishing quotas so that people don't need to fish as much and so they can't bring in as much per day to slow down the catching of the fish
Fishing Quotas
limit the size and the number of fish that ca. e used to prevent certain species form being overfished
Net size
Limit the types of mesh size to reduce the number of discarded and unwanted fish that are accidentally caught using bigger mesh size means small unwanted one can escape also younger fish can escape as well
How it can be more efficient
limiting the movement of livestock as. keeping them in temperature controlled environments means they use less energy therefor making it more effecient
