Interactions and Diversity
Living Together
A habitat is a place where one or a few types of animals live
A habitat with many different organisms living in it is called a community
There are many different kinds of community:
-Pond community
-Leaf litter community
-Field community
-Single plant community
Factors that affect the survival of Living Things
-Food
-Water
-Air
Adaptations
Animals adapt to survive
Polar bears have a layer of thick fat to keep warm a thick fur to trap air, which is a poor conductor of heat. Its skin is black in colour to absorb heat from the sun.
What is Energy Conversion?
Energy conversion always starts with a producer
Energy conversion starts in a food chain:
Then the food chain becomes a food web:
Characteristics of Living Things
Mammals: Hair,Give birth to young alive,Feed young milk
Fish: Breathe through gills,Have moist scales
Birds: Have feathers,Has a beak
Reptile: Have dry scales
Insect: Has exoskeleton,Pair of antennae,Three body parts,Six legs
Types of Animals
There are 5 types of animals
Reptile,Mammal,Fish,Bird,Insect
Vertebrates and Invertebrates
Mammals,Birds,Reptile,Fish are Vertebrates while insect is a Invertebrate
Vertebrates are animals with backbone
Invertebrates are animals without backbone
Fungi and Bacteria
Fungi and Bacteria are decomposers
They feed on dead or alive matter.
They break dead or alive matter into simpler substances for the plants to use as nutrients
It is confused by many that earthworms, beetles... are decomposers. They are not decomposers but detritivores. They help decomposition by breaking matter into simple substances
Decomposers include: Mushroom,Bacteria,Yeast,Mold....
