When king needed money - to make army/navy usually called parliament to collect tax.
However, in 1628, Charles collected tax without calling parliament
Made people think he was gonna become an absolutist
Even though they weren’t in the middle of a battle or war, Charles collected ship money [ money to build navy ]
After this he ruled without parliament
Religion
Laud + no. other people wanted church become more Catholic
Everyone else, including Puritans wanted church become more Protestant
King Charles wife was Catholic
King Charles also introduce new prayer book in England, then was informed he should make all prayer books same
Introduce new prayer book in Scotland aswell. They weren’t happy about that at all - led to some thinking Charles gonna turn Catholic.

Irish rebellion
Irish rebellion broke out in October 1641
Catholics in ireland attempted take over control from English
Ireland tried take over control of England because they afraid that Scottish and the English Long Parliament would invade Ireland and take control of country
From this, conflict developed between Irish catholics and the English Protestants.
