It helps people get through their miserable lives. Represents hope and humanity. ex. the King Lear performances, the comics, etc.
"Survival is insufficient." This Star Trek quote is painted on the side of one of the wagons of the Traveling Symphony.
This means that to truly live, people must retain their humanity and civilization.
Museum of Civilization represents humanity. It collects old relics to give people knowledge and hope.
Dr. Eleven comic books represent imagination as well as a remanent of the past.
Electricity in the distance can be seen, showing that civilization can be rebuilt.
People's true purpose
Arthur seems himself as a "living sleepwalker" but finds his purpose as the curator of the museum.
Jeevan had a lot of jobs he didn't like before he found his calling as a doctor.
The Traveling Symphony members found their true meaning with performance arts.

The first section about Jeevan is just the sets up two important characters: Arthur and Kirsten.
Ch 6 just describes how the world changed with no characters.

Excerpts from an interview with Kirsten are very different writing from the main narrative voice.
Story is told from the perspective of five people: Jeevan, Kirsten, Miranda, the Clarinet, and Arthur.
Plot
Jeevan at play. Actor Arthur dies. Jeevan meets a girl named Kirsten.
20 year time jump
Traveling symphony visits town to find other member. The town is a cult of sorts. They leave and discover the stowaway Eleanor
Miranda, Arthur's second wife, is described. It is revealed that she is the creator of Dr. Eleven comics.
When Kirsten is on guard duty, she hears a noise and discovers that Sayid and Dieter have vanished.
Members of the group keep disappearing and August and Kirsten get separated from the group.
More of Jeevan's life explained. His brother died and he met up with a group.
Clark's story is explained including the founding of the museum
