In the South East, there are 3 main rock types. These are cretaceous, Jurassic and Triassic rocks, and they cover around 30% of the region. Moving northwards, 40% of the land is carboniferous rock. In Scotland, the dominant rock is metamorphic, however the intrusive igneous rock is found smattered across Scotland.
