the Hungarian revolution
the Hungarian people were unhappy because: even though a non communist party was elected in 1945 they were taken over by communists with the control of the secret police eliminating all competition. Putting the communist Rakosi in control. Hungarians had no freedom of speech and the secret police created a climate of fear for anyone who spoke out about communism. Thousands of soviet troops were stationed in Hungary which was a big drain on the Hungarian economy and the Russian language was forced upon all.
After Krushchev's destalinisation speech the Hungarian people began to consider freedom-protests against Rakosi began to take place and he was replaced by Nagy he was a liberal reformer and his reforms included

Cuba is situated 90 miles from florida and when Catro took control of vuba a communist America was worried as they had many business links within cuba so that when castro came to America cut all sugar imports pushing castro to ask for help from the ussr who signed an agreement to buy 1 million tones of Cuban sugar
America was alarmed by the communist country being so close to them so in order to stop this communism so in april 1961 Kennedy sent 1,300 cia trained gorilla style fighting Cuban excilles however the Cuban army overcame them with force and the bay of pigs was a faliure
Later on in 1961 castro asked for weapons from Russia and they publicly promised them by 1962 the americans discovered a missile site
Kennedy did not dare invade Cuba but could not let missile sites to be completed so therefore he put a naval blockade around cuba
Russia saw this as an act of war and Russian forces were put on alert and us bombers were put in the sky with nuclear bombs the russias sent a telegram offering if they removed cuba's missiles turkeys missiles and the blockade should be removed
consequences -tensions rose to an all time high -west saw kennedy as a hero as turkey deal was kept quite -krushchev claimed to have won however he lost prestige

By 1960 Berlin still remained divided with the ussr controlling the east and usa allowed freedom in the west.Nearly 2000 refugees a day were fleeing to west berlin through east proving that the capitalist way of life is much better than the communist way
many leaving were skilled workers and usa and ussr meet at the Vienna sumit in 1961 were krushchev left berlin however kennedy refused and gave west berliners total freedom

by 1985 the soviet union was in trouble and when gorbechev came to power he withdrew from afghanistanm -he realised the ussr could no longer afford the arms race and opened START strategic arms reduction talks-he began to reform with policies of perestroika(freedom in business) and glasnost(freedom) of speech
his new policies lead to velvet revoultions and free elections were held in Poland in 1989 with the first non communist president coming to power-revoultions began to happen all over eastern Europe and notably lead to the fall of the berlin wall in 1989
