Compartments of the thigh
Anterior compartment
Femoral triangle
Lateral border: Sartorius
Medial border: Adductor longus
Superior border: Inguinal ligament
Adductor canal
Intermuscular passageway deep to sartorius by which major nerurovascular bundle of the thigh traverses the middle third of the thigh.
Anterior: Middle 1/3 of sartorius and fascia from VM to adductor magnus and longus
Lateral: Vastus medialis
Medial: Adductor longus and Magnus
Contains: Femoral Artery, Femoral vein, Saphenous nerve
NOTE: Vessels leave canal through adductor hiatus (in add magnus), then run posterior in popliteal fossa and become popliteal artery and vein
Muscles of the anterior thigh
Rectus femoris
Flex hip, extend knee
Vastas medialis
Extend knee, medial patella
Vastas intermedius
Extend knee
Vastus lateralis
Extend knee, lateral patella
Pectineus
Flex, adduct femur, assist in medial rotation
Sartorius
Flex, Abducts, and ER of femur at the hip
Illiopsoas
Cutaneous innervation

Adductor muscles
Gracilis
Flex knee, IR tibia
Adductor longus
Flex knee, IR femur at the hip
Adductor brevis
Assist with flexion, IR femur at the hip
Adductor magnus
Assist in extension and IR femur at hip
NOTE: All adductor muscles are innervated by Obturator nerve (L2-L4)
Posterior compartment
Tibial nerve
Common peroneal (fibular) nerve
