Newt's determination not only benefit Cecil but also himself as he manage to overcome his fear of height.

Cecil always dream to be a drummer. But when he saw the big bass drum, he could not it fetch on his own. That is why he asked Newt for help.
Newt save Reggie Ratner from his known suicide attempt.

Even so, Newt is the only person that decided to climb over the water tower in order to save Reggie.

Because of his determination, Newt manage to persuade Reggie to climb down from the water tower.

Everyone heard the news of Reggie Ratner climb over the highest building of Appleton. They suspect he is about to commit suicide.
Newt catch Ferocious the ferret that is in danger.

Ferocious went to the busy road. Despite, Newt immediately ran over Ferocious to capture him back.
OPINION
Even though Newt knew it was dangerous, he is still determined to catch the ferret because he knew it was his responsibility.

Newt and Cecil was on their way back home suddenly they bumped on Ricky Ratner, Reggie's cousin. They had an argument until one moment Ferocious escaped from his cage.
