The Physical Geography of China
How this has influenced population and city formation
The cities are all in the east as that is where the flat land is
Also the East is where the huge factories are with thousands of workers
This causes massive overpopulation in the east of China
Many people migrate from the West to the East
As the East is a lot more habitable loads of people live there as there are more jobs
The relief, rivers and climate of China
Rivers start in the west= mountains and finish in the ports=east
In the east winters are mild along with summers not a big change in season and in the west it is always cold.
Rivers=Yangtze,Yellow river and Mekong
Desserts and mountains are in the west of china
High in the west low in the east roughly speaking
The one child policy
Impacts-positive and negative
Due to a traditional preference for boys large numbers of female babies have been abandoned and in some cases killed causing a massive distortion in the Chinese gender balance.
The falling birthrate means there are fewer people of a working age to support the growing number of elderly people in retirement.
China's birth rates have fallen since 1979 and the rate of population growth is now a small 0.7 per cent
Reasons for implementation
This does not sound great but if a population growth rate is 3 per cent it will cause the population to double in less then 24 years
Previously having numerous children had been encouraged to grow the work force but in the 1970s china realised its population growth would soon become unsustainable
In 1950 the rate of population change in China was 1.9 per cent(=per 100 people) each year
Industrialization of China
China's place in the world/global market
In the global market China holds the no.2 spot behind the United States but is in front of the United Kingdom
China have the second biggest GDP in the world but because of its huge population is 74th in the world for GDP per capita
China has gone through the process of globalisation=the process by which businesses or other organisations develop international influence or start operating on an international scale driven by technology + finance + trade + investment.
China is also the worlds second biggest consumer after the USA
Over the past three decades Chinese products have swept over every country and find a place in almost every home.
Impacts of China's economic and industrial growth=posititve+negative
China has a huge GDP=gross domestic product=total value of every thing produced in that country whether it be by companies or people
Increase in population=more CO2 released especially more car owners leading to smog and worsened air quality
Since 1978 China has maintained an economic growth averaging around 8%
During China's economic growth the government spent lots causing a GDP to debt ratio of around 260%
With China having a massive population and a large economy companies are designing products to the Chinese taste+also lots more companies are trying to sell things to China
