Material Requirements Planning
input: MPS
involve: BOM, lead time of each item
output: production activity control (PAC)/ purchase
step: 1. check component and raw material inventories; 2. create priority plan for releasing orders based on lead time; 3. capacity check
1. The MRP Environment
Objective of MRP:
determine material requirements precisely in terms of what, how much and when;
adapt to changing priority
Input, process and output
Main inputs: MPS, BOM and inventory record (planning factors+inventory status)
Process: order release--> order receipt--> final assembly
outputs: purchase+ PAC
2. Bills of Material
include: single unit, unique identifier, quantities and unit, scope
Types of BOM
single-level BOM
multilevel BOMs
indented BOM
summarized BOM
planning BOM
3. MRP Logic
explode and offset
bill-of-material explosion
lead-time offset
planned order receipt: receive order in the future
planned order release: release order at this moment for future received
gross to net requirements
net requirements= gross requirements- scheduled receipts- prior projected available
projected available= prior period projected available + scheduled receipts + planned order receipts- gross requirements
scheduled receipt: an open order that has an assigned due date
bucketless MRP: use specific date instead of time bucket
MRP in lean
capacity requirements planning (CRP): detailed check for all resources
4. use and manage the priority plan
MRP planning software
action messages: advise when to release the planned orders
exception messages: issue messages when quantity or receipt date of materials will be insufficient to meet the plan and ...
planned order: a suggested order quantity, release date, and due date created by the planning system's logic.
firm planned order (FPO): a planned order that can be frozen in quantity and time
open order (released order): 1. a released manufacturing order or purchase order; 2. an unfilled customer order
order control
release planned orders
maintain priority and replan
