- Are there other sources of knowledge about the world than science? What does distinguish science from other kinds of source of knowledge about the world?
- What is operationalization? What is the goal of operational definition in psychological research?
- What do we mean by theory and why are theories important in psychological research?
- What do we mean when we say that a theory/hypothesis must be falsifiable? Why is the falsification criterion so important for psychological research?
- What characterizes a good research question?
- What characterizes the quantitative method and quantitative variables?
Week 3
- What is descriptive statistics and what’s its goal? What’s the difference btw descriptive statistics and inferential statistics?
- Which kind of measurement scales do we have? Why do we need to think thoroughly to which kind of measurement scale are we using?
- What do we obtain from displaying our data graphically? Which different ways are there to display data graphically, and how are they distinguished and when should you use which?
- Briefly explain how we calculate the measures of average (mean), mode and median. What do we need to consider when we choose among these measures on the central tendency? Calculate mean, mode and median for the following scores (2 5 4 3 2 6 4 5 2).
- What is it meant by spread in a distribution and why is the spread important? In which different ways can the spread be measured? Calculate the different measures for the spread in: 2 5 4 3 2 6 4 2.
- What do we mean by reliability and validity of measurements? Briefly describe different forms of reliability and validity. Can a test be valid without being reliable, why?
