Waverly Jong
Waverly is the daughter of Lindo Jong. She has always been a child success. She was in chess tournaments which she always won. An as adult she became a great attorney. Her and Jing-mei have always had a rivalry because of their mothers. Waverly fears what her mother will think about her fiance who happens to be white.

Suyuan Woo was Jing-mei’s mother and the founder of the Joy Luck Club and she started it in China. she had twin daughters but had to leave them behind but then had another daughter in America
Jing-mei Woo
Jing-mei Woo is the daughter of Suyuan Woo. She was taking her mothers place in the joy luck club because her mother had died from a brain aneurysm. The other remaining members give her money to travel to China so that she can find her mother’s long-lost twin daughters so that she can tell them about their mother they didn't get to know

Ying-ying St. Clair is the last member of the Joy Luck Club. She was very independent in life but then she lets her American husband speak for her in incorrectly interpret her feelings.
Lena St. Clair
Lena is the daughter of Ying-ying St. Clair. She is an only child. She has to have control over her career and in her marriage. She is following her mother passive example but doesn't know that
